on perspective
and harnessing our meaning-making ability
raw, unfiltered thoughts from my brain
wait what?
yo
the destination makes the journey. (use of period for intense thought)
what does that meannnnnnnnnnn
it means that we make sense of the past by seeing its effects on the present and the
future. no one kneww the french revolution was the french revolution until after the
french revolution when we all said oh ya that was totally a revolution.
part of my ability to find happiness is to look at my past, specifically stuff that
i found super hard at the time, and develop a more gracful interpretation because of
how it's helped me grow.
but if im being honest, what i really like about this idea is how it's really the
different perspective that makes the new relationship possible. so im gonna talk
mostly about that because i think its a deeper thread. destination makes journey
will be folded in doe.
playing with perspective is insane. and its made possible by our human nature. we
are subjective beings. we attach meaning to everything. if you've read anything else
on this site you'll know Dostoyevsky was the one who really made that so obvious for
me (Zosima's duel, his decaying odor). but another example is nature. some people
experience nature and feel more one with their experience, some are scared, some are
indifferent. same objective thing, radically different meaning attached.
this means we can also
select the meaning and therefore our relationship with our entire experience.
this story is a way to change our perspective towards our shortcomings as a society
and find the beauty in where were at now. imagine if you had to tell some very
advanced civilzation what its like to live on earth. for me, this really puts our
times in perspective. i feel like we've come so much closer to aligning with our
true nature then we've ever been mostly because of how much easier it is to survive
now (this is very unfortunately not true for all people. but there is a lot of
awareness being raised to this and its only through our advancements that we are
even able to care for people we don't recognize as our kin. and honestly thats a big
reason why i believe well get there. because we do show care for others once our
survival needs have been met)
*side note: its kind of cool how i keep saying "how we were meant to be, our natural
pure state" but at every point in our evolution our highest and most natural state
has been different. and it will likely be different in 1000 years. we can only
fathom what it would be like to live in a world with another massive advancement and
how that would change everything.
offering this new perspective gives us a chance to make an evolutionary connection
to things that we (or at least definitely i) would change if i could. and ill say
changes to my wiring cause were all subject to the same human nature that manifests
itself on a small scale like relationships and large scale like the way we organize
ourselves. all manifestations of the same nature (story for another day)
the aliens give us a different mirror through which we can look at the leftover
survival mechanisms still running that cause us to suffer to have our needs met.
science-like rigor applied to analyzing how these surival mechanisms impact our
ability to find our true nature gives us a different mirror to analyze the
scienctific process with respect to empirical observation. stick figures
demonstrating the inate strengths and weaknesses of human nature challenge our
ability to extract a meaningful message from unaesthetic mediums. acceptance of the
shortcomings of language allow us to consider what connection truly means. and while
the prism would be another choice made to further this point, that is actually a
real thing that happened to me that caused me to challenge that exact thing.
